Genie Pictures was formed by Steve Hewlett and James Cohen in 2012. We are dedicated to the production of quality television programmes delivering insight and engagement with integrity.
Steve Hewlett is an award winning documentary producer and executive producer of many years’ experience. A former editor of BBC One’s documentary strand Inside Story and flagship current affairs programme Panorama, he has also worked as a senior executive at Channel 4 and ITV. He is also a writer, broadcaster and Guardian columnist.
James Cohen is a multi-award winning producer/director who has been making documentaries for twenty years across all the terrestrial channels. He began his career on BBC’s Inside story where he made such celebrated films as Betrayal and Love On The Needle. He then became an independent film maker, directing such films as Pramface for Channel 4 and The Duchess In Hull for ITV. His latest highly acclaimed series Strangeways and Wormwood Scrubs were nominated for Grierson and RTS awards respectively.
